The relevant bit follows (had to transcribe this so it may not be exact)
[comments in square brackets]
Starting harvare detection
insmod ,,,,
..
insmod /modules/usb-storage.ko
,,,
looking for an openSUSE CD
disk: trying to mount /dev/sr0 [the internal CD drive]
disk: media found in /dev/sr0 [correct - a non-SUSE data disk in drive]
disk: /dev/sr0: mount OK
disk: /dev/sr0: not an openSUSE install disk [true]
disk: trying to mount /dev/sr1 [the external USB DVD that had booted]
Automatic setup not possible
On console 4 I tried:
# mount [/dev/sr1 not mounted]
# mount /dev/sr1 /mnt
# ls /mnt
#
So, the DVD looks empty, which probably explains the setup failure. But
clearly the disk is not empty: it booted; it looks fine examined with openSuSE
