https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=302392 Summary: unbootable system after kernel upgrade Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Maintenance AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rich@hq.vsaa.lv QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- after upgrading vanilla 10.2 installation with latest upgrades, a kernel upgrade was performed. it was upgraded to 2.6.18.8-0.5-default. after this upgrade, menu.lst got two new entries inserted (normal and failsafe), both with kernel version appended. unfortunately, old versions did not get removed, and 'default' entry was set to '2', thus making the system unbootable (of course, it was still possible to manually select the correct entry). i suspect this has something to do with yast grub installation, as it failed during initial setup, too. the system has 2 sata drivas (sda and sdb), each with 3 primary partitions that are connected in raid-1s, respectively. /dev/md0 is swap, /dev/md1 is / and /dev/md2 is /home. after initial setup, /etc/grub.conf contained : setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd1,1) (hd0,1) setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd1,1) (hd1,1) quit -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
