I had a slightly different problem that might be related; right after installation (the installer picked a 16 bits-per-pixel mode) the screen was left half blue, half filled with garbage. The computer was still responsive, I was able to switch to text console and when I switched back, everything started to work correctly; however, normal user would be lost.

Graphics card: nVidia NV44 (GeForce 6200 TurboCache, rev. A1) Arch: AMD x86_64 OS: openSUSE 10.3 beta1 x86_64 This is unrelated and a duplicate of Bug #302010.
