https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=287078 Summary: sax2 dies when trying to set up PCI graphics card Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 5 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: ms@novell.com ReportedBy: memelink.akker@planet.nl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=148082) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=148082) contents of /var/log/SaX.log after sax2 died Installed openSuSE 10.3 alpha 5 (x86_64) on: Motherboard : Asus P5GZ-MX (with on board Intel graphics chip) Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E4400 Graphics card : Asus EN 7300GT (NVIDIA 7300GT graphics chip) The restart during the installation fails due to a Kernel panic. This is a known problem, caused by the fact that the on board Intel graphics chip can not be disabled in BIOS. This was solved by adding the line "blacklist intel_agp" in the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist In the final part of the installation (Hardware setup) the automatic setup of the graphics doesn't work. Trying to change the graphics setup mostly gives an error message like "Choose one of the underlined items" or something, but it sometimes even crashes the installation procedure. Leaving the proposed graphics setup untouched, the installation ends with a message that there are errors, and proceeds to restart the system. I end up with a text-mode login prompt. Logged in as root, and tried the command (chip 1 = nvidia) "sax2 -c 1". Output of "sax2 -p": Chip: 0 is -> Intel 945G 00:02:0 0x8086 0x2772 PCI intel Chip: 1 is -> NVidia GeForce 7300 GS 02:00:0 0x10de 0x01df AGP nv Output of "sax2 -c 1": SaX: initializing please wait...
