What do you mean "silence"? No sound output although the player is running? Exactly.
Trying aplay:
aplay /opt/kde3/share/sounds/k3b_success1.wav Playing WAVE '/opt/kde3/share/sounds/k3b_success1.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono ..takes some time but plays no sound at all.
Any change to the PCM level triggers this. All channel-levels in AlsaMixer are OK (about 70-80%). Btw.
