https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=222503 Summary: Dell P991 monitor not recognized, resulting in bad user experience Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 plus Platform: i586 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: richard.bos@xs4all.nl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com suse-10.2 does not recognize by graphic system, an Nvidia monitor card + a DELL P991 monitor. The monitor is used with many many suse versions. The bad thing is, that running sax2 in (init 3) does not work, as the screen resolution is really awfull. The screen size is okay, but inside the screen the characters are huge (there are e.g. only 3 characters possible from frop top to bottom)! After the 1st installation, I thought the installation went bad and as such I decided to re-install the suse-10.2. (because working in kde was impossible, gnome was not installed and as such could not be tested. I tried to install gnome via the command line (ncurses yast), but I quited for the reason I don't remember. During the second install I left the monitor characteristics to vesa 1280x1024 and now I can more or less use the system, but it is not pleasant. suse102b2:~ # hwinfo --monitor 23: None 00.0: 10000 Monitor [Created at fb.71] Unique ID: rdCR.EY_qmtb9YY0 Hardware Class: monitor Model: "Generic Monitor" Vendor: "Generic" ===========>> This should be DELL P991 Device: "Monitor" Resolution: 1280x1024@77Hz Driver Info #0: Max.
