Summary: SuSEconfig --module sendmail: makemap: error opening
type hash map /etc/mail/access.db: Permission denied
Product: SUSE LINUX 10.0
Version: unspecified
Platform: Other
OS/Version: SLES 9
Status: NEW
Severity: Normal
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Basesystem
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: Ulrich.Windl@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx

On a busy mail server the SuSEconfig module to rebuild the maps may flag a
"permission denied" error ("makemap: error opening type hash map
/etc/mail/access.db: Permission denied" when actually the permissions are fine.
The cause probably is a locked database (read lock).
The effect is that the time stamp of access.db is renewed, but the content is
still the old one. That's bad, because a second call to SuSEconfig will not
trythe operation again until the text map is changed again.
For reliable operation, SuSEconfig might consider retrying the update operation
a few times. I had to repeat the command seven times within a few seconds to
make it succeed.
