Summary: ntpd crashes on x86-64 system
Product: SUSE Linux 10.1
Version: Final
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1
Status: NEW
Severity: Critical
Priority: P5 - None
Component: Other
AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ReportedBy: michael.weiss@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
QAContact: qa@xxxxxxx

ntpd from package xntpd works fine on my i586 box, but crashes on my Intel Xeon
server:

#root> strace /usr/sbin/ntpd
execve("/usr/sbin/ntpd", ["/usr/sbin/ntpd"], [/* 66 vars */]) = -1 ENOEXEC
(Exec format error)
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) @ 0 (0) ---
+++ killed by SIGSEGV +++
Process 26302 detached

Recompilation from source (downloaded from
http://ntp.isc.org/Main/DownloadViaFTP?file=ntp4/ntp-4.2/ntp-4.2.2p4.tar.gz)
makes it work fine. (It's 4.2.2 instead of 4.2.0, but this is probably not the
issue.)
