the entire automatic roll-out process is based on 7.3 and there would be
too many changes to migrate to a higher version. We use AutoYast only to
create a master-image so this can be done with a single PC with an "old"
HD.

I have problems partitioning the harddisk with autoyast1 with newer hardware: it takes a long time and Yast times out. So I tried to upgrade the kernel of the boot-floppy, but then the system hangs during installation when the installed system is started (I can see with ps that an additional mount of the NFS directory fails). The startup can be continued by CTRL-C. After a reboot it is possible to mount NFS directories.
Well, yast1 for the release you are using was tested and is supported with the respective kernel in the release. Any new kernel you try to use might break alot of things, since it has been a while since 7.3. If you are using some business product, please contact SuSE support who will be able to help you. Any specific reason why you are using 7.3 still? Anas
