Keeping Partitons

Dear All, On /dev/hda, there are 5 partitions: /dev/hda5 /boot (32MB) /dev/hda6 swap (2.0GB) /dev/hda7 / (10.0GB) /dev/hda8 /install (10.0GB) /dev/hda9 /home (80.0GB) I would like to autoinstall SuSE 8.2 with KEEPING all partitons, format /dev/hda5,...,/dev/hda8 and not format /dev/hda9. It does not work. I get the simple error message: No space left on /dev/hda. I tried several variations with no success. Does anybody know what to do? Any help is greatly appreciated. If you ever succeeded in keeping your partitions, I would be very interested in your .xml configuration file. Thanks a lot! Hello out there!!! My linuxrc loaded with error messages: Idconfig:/usr/lib/liby2pm.so.2.0.0 is not an ELF file - it has the wrong magic bytes at the start And aborts the installation with: "an error occurred during the installation" The SOLUTION for this weird problem is a incomplete or wrong dhcpd.conf!!! I solved this Problem in adding the line "option routers 10.10.200.1" to the dhcpd.conf (In our case there was no router at all --- we have tested the autoinstallation only in a test network - only server and client - That's why I thought it wouldn't be necessary to add this option) Thanks a million to Thomas Mack! Creation of groups in autoinstall

Hi list! How can I create a new group with autoyast2 in the xml-file? I want to have a user that is member of a new group, called "webadmin", but this group does not exist and has to be created during autoinstallation. In the helpfile of Anas Nashif is explained, how to create users and add them to existing groups, but not how to create a new group prior of that. Do I have to do this via post-install scripts, or is there a solution to change the xml-Configfile? Thanks in advance Peter

Keep partitions

Hello, I'm trying to set up an unattended installation system for SuSE 8.2, but I have a problem: In our organization we must keep some partitions untouched, based in the following partition schema: /dev/hda1 Windows (Untouch) /dev/hda5 Swap (Format) /dev/hda6 Reiser root filesystem (Format and mount as /) /dev/hda7.. Other linux partitions that we want to keep I read that SuSE 8.2 autoinstallation module support this and I made a profile to keep the partitions (similar to the example in the web page), but the results were unsuccessful. Hi all, i have troubles with my suse 8.0 pc installation: yast stops operations during hard disks detection. I suppose that my ITE IT8212 ATA RAID Controller is not recognized by yast. How can i deal with? Thanks in advance... Angelo

package initialization failed

Hi, I already read those tipps from this list about the error on "initialising software packages" but was not able to fix this problem with the attached autoinst.xml . My procedure should be well known and simple: 1. make the CD-ROM make the first boot device 2. insert a floppy disk with autoinst.xml to fd0 3. insert CD1 from SuSE Linux 8.1/8.1 to hdc 4. reboot, at the boot prompt choose text mode (F2) and press ENTER => "error while initialize package descriptions". I have CONFIG_ISO9660=y in my running kernel, in case that matters. Also... I have *NO* problems at all installing *any* software from my SuSE 8.0 CDs using yast2. The problem is when I use Yast2 to try to start the update procedure with the 8.2 disks. BTW - I legally bought both the 8.0 and 8.2 releases and have the "official" SuSE disks. So its not like a problem with me burning my own disks or something.

could not mount the source medium - Yast2

I am currently running SuSE 8.0 and am attempting to upgrade. I have been using Linux since 1.2.8 and SuSE since SuSE 6.4. I installed SuSE 8.0 clean using a SCSI CD ROM. My current CD ROM is an IDE which uses SCSI emulation at boot time. I found the knowledge article at: http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/yast2_pakete_installieren.html which almost describes my problem, however the fix (rerun hwscan --cdrom) did not solve the problem. I start up Yast2, select "update system" and I get an error message: No access to source media used on previous installation. Continue with choosing new installation source? I select Continue Select location of source: I select CD installation And I get a popup: No installation data found on medium Could not mount the source medium I have rerun hwscan --cdrom several times. I did hwscan --list and deleted the files from /var/lib/hardware that were CDROM files and reran hwscan --cdrom. It didn't solve the problem. I have rebooted just in case... I boot using grub, and this is from my grub menu.lst: # For booting Linux title Linux root (hd0,0) kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz-2.4.18 ro root=/dev/hda3 hdd=ide-scsi initrd (hd0,0)/initrd-2.4.18 I am able to mount the cd if I do: mount /cdrom. >From my fstab: /dev/cdrom /cdrom auto ro,noauto,user,exec 0 0 and my /dev/ directory: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 Apr 10 13:34 /dev/cdrom -> /dev/scd0 I tried ln -sf /dev/cdrom /dev/sr0 but that didn't help either. >From dmesg output: hda: WDC WD1200BB-00CAA1, ATA DISK drive hdb: WDC WD800BB-40BSA0, ATA DISK drive hdc: MAXTOR 6L080J4, ATA DISK drive hdd: SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-232B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive ......... .........
