Hi again.
We first should agree on a timeline.
may be before know the work to be done :-)
We already know that for now. All that needs to be modified is in the 12.1 artwork git tree.
But, for example, can we agree to have sorted things on early January (one month ahead, but with hollidays)
The release schedule for 12.2 is not set yet. What I mean is to find a general timeline that fits on every release, e.g. deadline for submissions is Milestone 1, Final artwork has to be packaged till Milestone 3.
Besides that here are some open questions that needs to be clarified:
- Do we want artwork to be based on some kind of concepts?
should be good if we find a good concept (not so easy!)
- Are we open for any kind of submissions (e.g. photos, too)?
just me: why not?
Then we have to find a general artwork for the rest. The current artwork for grub/syslinux, yast and app splashes is quite generic, as it only contains slight overlay elements. What is missing is a generic bootsplash (hopefully Plymouth on 12.2).
- Can we provide gifts for winning concepts (e.g. a bamboo tablet), @jdd do we have budget for that?
I have no access to any budget, but I'm pretty sure Jos would agree. We had a long discussion on Marketting, but failed to find some kind of reward both cheap and interesting :-)
Could you perhaps ask Jos on that @jdd?
- Does it really need to be green?
Green isd fairly strongly associated with openSUSE, so any change have to be really prepared long time ago. For example, I would considere that changing color for 13.1 could be good. keep 12 green, 13 blue, 14 red (just examples). May be we can have a progressive change, but I don't know how.
I mean I'm not keeping the green ad vitam aeternam just because we are now green
Maybe green in combination with grey could be an option. Predefining color also limits artwork concepts a lot. And what about photos? Do they have to be green, too?
- How should we vote for a concept? (email / connect)
poll on connect, but such a vote have to be prepared long time ago if anybody want a success
This is what we generally do. However, voting is the final step. First we would need to have our time line set up to have artwork submitted long before the release. That way we can choose a design and then have time to tweak it and make it even better. This also helps the rest of the artists decide on what to base their particular designs for openSUSE. The key to all this is to be as early as time allows to generate artwork.
Is it possible to limit polls to a specific userbase?
- Who can vote?
members? Ambassadors? anybody?
I personally would say the ppl from the artwork team but am also not totally against opening it for all members.
This is a good point that we should bring up in the meeting.
- Can we provide a core team that is responsible for the artwork integration? (building themes, uploading them to git, packaging, testing)
I would love it!!
- Does that list have to be reply to author, instead of reply to list ;?
This will also be part of the meeting. Deciding what type of artwork needs we have is the first step in setting up our group.
with reply to list, I don't see a problem
