I have a relatively fresh install of Suse 9.2 on an Asus A8V motherboard, Athlon 64 3200+, 1GB RAM and the Marvell Yukon Gigabit controller (sk98lin). I am running 2.6.8-24-3 default (x86_64). I can browse the web and use email just fine. However if I contect to the apache2 server on the Suse box from a Windows box on the network, the Suse box locks up hard. I am able to browse on the Suse box and connect to apache2 (localhost) and see the default apache web page without any problems. I read through the archives and saw a post on Nov 19 regarding the Asus K8V (different mobo, but same network I believe). Those posts imply some problem with the 98sklin network driver which I am running. I would appreciate any help. I am not familiar with Linux so I don't know where to look for this sk98lin source or archives that might describe the problem I am experiencing. I contacted Suse technical, but they really don't want to help.
Hello I'll just tell you my experience so you can accumulate it as another datum point. I have two computers, one with the ASUS K8V Deluxe motherboard and one with the ASUS K8V SE Deluxe motherboard. The first one has the 3Com 3C940 ethernet and the second one has the Marvell Yukon controller. Both use the same sk98lin driver. I had to dowload, compile and load the driver in both cases (www.syskonnect.de) . The first motherboard works fine now. The second one however has never worked (in terms of built-in ethernet). Moreover, I had sporadic and frequent lock-ups. I swapped the memory and the video card just in case due to stories I read on the internet. After many hours of troubleshooting and thinking about it, I decided to turn off the onboard ethernet via the BIOS and use a 10/100 PCI LAN card instead. So far so good. I'm in the middle of a burn-in and if this machine does not lock-up by tomorrw I'll assume that the I've found a way around the problem. Please remember that on my second motherboard, the onboard ethernet has /never/ worked. Your problem is different but in any case might be related. I've heard from others that they had no trouble with their onboard ethernet.I wish I were one of them. Misery Likes Company... Cheers
