So my question is, how can I update this 8.0 box to 9.1 using a DVD in another systems drive?
as far as i know and have read all over the net is, that suse doestn support an upgrade scenario when you dont actually boot the box for real from the new media. there is no upgrade from within the old system. once you boot from the new media, it detects that an old suse x.yz system is installed on your hard disks, and will offer you an upgrade scenario. this is what i know so far. this seems to be true for suse retail boxes of non-business products (suse linux professional etc...) i dont know the exact details about the suse servers. i suppose upgrade is possible there though. but then again, i think i once found some websites talking about this very problem, and offering some hacks and apt/rpm packages and some little scripts and howtos on how to upgrade manually through an ssh account and transfering some files. but i dont know the exact details anymore and never tried it. again, it was not supported by suse and not really an easy or official way if i remember correctly. cheers, andy
