You might know the snowman Olaf from Frozen[1]? He started to serve as our guest in the openSUSE heroes network - currently providing * access to the "MirrorBrain" Database, which is behind the download.opensuse.org redirector. * the mirrors.opensuse.org pages, based on the latest scan data of our openSUSE mirrors Olaf could meanwhile also do the job as "scan-host" for our mirrors, but I had in mind that someone wants to contact our mirror admins before we switch over from the old machine - I just forgot who it was. So please speak up if you feel bad now and prepare for the announcement ;-) What does that mean: * added/editing/removing mirrors is now possible with access to the openSUSE openVPN (funny name, btw). Once the needed SSH keys are deployed (or access is granted via freeIPA), please follow the official documentation[2] and/or play with the "mb list; mb show $mirror; mb edit $mirror" stuff. But please do not forget that this is our production database! * you can already use olaf.infra.opensuse.org to scan mirrors "mb -v scan $mirror" or enable them "mb enable $mirror" or whatever. There is really just the commented scan jobs in /etc/cron.d/mirrorbrain that stop olaf from becoming the official scanner * The layout of mirrors.opensuse.org should IMHO see an update. I played a bit and got https://mirrors.opensuse.org/index2.html - but this proves again that I'm no web-designer. Maybe someone finds the time to a) think about a github repository for that page - and maybe also for the config in /etc/sysconfig/mirrorbrain-webpages b) adapt/beautify the master and place everything in the github repository, so we can do a simple pull (via cron) on olaf once in a while * whoever wants to help with mirror stuff in the future, can use this machine for the "daily admin tasks" I know that this news does not mask the problems from the last days, but I see it as a next step in the migration of the openSUSE services in the hand of the openSUSE Heroes. ...and I plan to come up with more good news as soon as possible ;-) With kind regards, Lars PS: Tuesday evening is always a bad meeting time for me, but this time I'm even more "blocked" - so again sorry that I can not attend your meetings any longer. I hope my reports here on the list help at least a bit. -- [1]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olaf_(Disney) [2]: http://mirrorbrain.org/docs/installation/initial_config/#creating-some-mirro... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: heroes+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: heroes+owner@opensuse.org
