[yast-devel] save_y2logs store also generated files?
Hi developers, Raymund Will bring idea that it would be quite helpful if save_y2logs also store files that is generated by yast2 like bootloader config files, sysconfig files and other files that is written by yast as these config files are quite small and can help with debugging stuff and also it is helps if problem is in underlaying software, then we can easily point to configuration file that we think is correct and such software do not act as we expect. What do you think about this idea? I think if we decide to do, then do it also in SP4 as it can help with debugging issues. The problem is that we do not know which files are modified by Yast, we would need to explicitly list the extra files. But I'm not sure it is actually needed, I usually log all important values which are read or written so they should be in the standard y2log. (Yes, there is a possibility that the parser/serializer is broken and it reads/writes something different than what was logged, but that's very rare and I cannot remember any real issue.) Another issue might be sensitive values in the extra files (like passwords, credentials), when logging I replace sensitive values by "[FILTERED]", "PASSWORD" or "******" replacement. Depending on the file we might need some additional filtering which would make it more complicated.
What do you think about this idea? I think if we decide to do, then do it also in SP4 as it can help with debugging issues.
For me the current state is OK, just the usual y2log is sufficient for me. -- Best Regards Ladislav Slezák Yast Developer ------------------------------------------------------------------------ SUSE LINUX, s.r.o. e-mail: lslezak@suse.cz Lihovarská 1060/12 tel: +420 284 028 960 190 00 Prague 9 fax: +420 284 028 951 Czech Republic http://www.suse.cz/ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: yast-devel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: yast-devel+owner@opensuse.org
