Problems with new monitor / signal error
Hi, last week I bought a new monitor and no matter how I configure it, I get signal errors. I have SuSE linux 9.0 with KDE 3.1.4 / xfree86 4.3.0.1-21. My monitor is an EIZO L985EX with 1600x1200 Pixels @ 60 Hz (DVI). My graphics card is Matrox G450-23c3, if that matters. The card has only one DVI-connector, which I connected to the monitor with the DVI-cable that came with the monitor. First of all, the monitor was not recognized by SaX2. I configured it as -->LCD with 1600x1200@60Hz. In addition I set the frequencies according to the manual. Under extensions I set the screen size (to 440 mm x 330 mm). As Modeline-Algorithm CheckDesktopGeometry was set by default, as well as DPMS was selected by default. I didn't change that at first. Later I added the following section to /usr/X11R6/lib/sax/api/data/cdb/ Monitors: #============================================== # L985EX #---------------------------------------------- EIZO:L985EX { DDC=ENC1674 Hsync=31-76 Vsync=59-61 } Somewhere linux told me, that my monitor has the DDC-ID ENC1674, so I thought, the section should be right. However, it didn't change a thing. (Unfortunately, I do not find again, where linux told me the DDC-ID!?) The problem: With these settings, linux booted and KDE came up. I could work. However, when I shut down linux, or logged of -- so that the shutdown messages where expected to show up on the screen or KDE was expected to show the login screen again for someone else to log in, respectively, the monitor displayed the error message (on the screen) signal error fD 52.5 MHz fH 39.0 kHz fV 48.4 Hz the last value was in red, so this was really the value the monitor complained about (according to the manual). In some cases the system stayed with this message, so I had to switch it off. In other cases, after a while the monitor displayed the message signal check fH 0.0 kHz fV 0.0 Hz Sometimes -- but only sometimes and with the login screen -- it helps to move the mouse or hit the keyboard. In other cases I had to switch the system off... Then I changed the Modeline-Algorithm to UseFrameBufferTiming and set the boot-option vga=317 to vga=31B in the file /boot/grub/menu.lst. I think this is still wrong. Anyway, it didn't change a thing. What configuration do I have to change? P.S. What about the DPMS setting? As far as I understand the manual of the monitor it is for analog input. For digital input I should set it to DMPM, but I don't know, how. Since my monitor accepts both, digital and analog input, how can I make shure, that it gets digital input from the graphics card and not analog input? Another P.S. In SaX2 I find a button to read a driver from the floppy-disk of the monitor manutacturer. Unfortunately I only got a CD, no floppy-disk. SaX2 cannot access the CD. Is there anything on the CD, that will help? What and how can I access it from SaX2? (Or what do I have to do manually?) Thanks in advance for any help. Andreas.
