Hello Alexander,
After "googleing" around, I followed the hint to install an new version of xfree86. This was propably a bad idea, because now I can't start X anymore, even not with the previous settings. I have installed the version 4.04 for glibc 2.0 on my computer. Hoping for help, I add my XF86Config and the xfree86.log to this mail.
Ah, my first time looking at a 4.4.0 logfile. :)
You are aware of course that you commented your entire ServerLayout section out in the command file, and that XFree86 in a moment of joy decides to use your keyboard as the core pointer device because of this?
(WW) No Layout section. Using the first Screen section. (WW) The core pointer device wasn't specified explicitly in the layout. Using the first keyboard device.
Now, I'm not sure if this causes the problems you're experiencing, but I'm sure they won't help...
Btw, you might want to put this problem on the xfree86@xfree86.org mailinglist as well. I'm sure there are some more experienced people for 4.4.0 problems there. In the mean time I'll try what I can to help you find a solution. :) Have you tried running without any config file (4.4.0 can do this I've been told)?
