[opensuse-xfce] Remmina / Tiger VNC
Hi again, looking at a quite regular oS Xfce installation (TW, basic pattern, Xfce pattern) I got both Tiger VNC and Remmina preinstalled. Some thoughts on that: 1. I don't know either of them in depth but would suspect some duplication in functionality there. 2. Tiger VNC looks quite "old fashioned". Is it really necessary to keep this thing? (Maybe that's more a question for factory ML...) 3. As Tiger VNC is coming from basic desktop pattern and Remmina rooting from Xfce pattern: would it even be possible to somehow "block" Tiger VNC when installing both basic desktop and Xfce pattern alltogether? There is some duplication but I don't use Tiger VNC either to know it well. When reviewing the pattern recently I was told by some xfce users that Remmina is "more popular".

AFAIK Tiger VNC has been in the Base Pattern for a long time.I also wondered if it really is necessary and think it could be discussed in the Factory ML

You can add a lock to Tiger VNC during the install at the "Installation Settings" screen. Cheers, -- Maurizio Galli (MauG) Xfce Team https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Xfce -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-xfce+owner@opensuse.org
Hi Maurizio,

That's no what I meant as this involves manual user intervention. I thought of some automatism which prohibits installation of A when B is installed. Similar to RPM's "Conflicts" but I'm unsure if that would work over patterns? It might be possible to set some conditionals in the Xfce Pattern spec file but even if doable I am not entirely convinced it is the right way to do it. I would prefer it if you or anyone would open a discussion about Tiger VNC in Factory ML first.
