If anything, I think that the numerous unsolicited translations that have sprung up, shows that there is a small army of people that are just itching to contribute to this project (and won't let some technical problem with multiple wiki instances stand in their way :-). opensuse multi-language image repository

Hello :-) I see that the opening of multi-language wiki is an other time delayed. I think it could be pretty easy to begin langage-specific pages in the actual wiki and to copy/paste them (at worst) when available. the only really difficult thing is the copy of images. so it is of primary interest to know if the image repository will be the same for all wikis (the best choice in my advice - similar to wikipedia common) or at least if an automated copy of images (and companion page) is possible. if so, the work couls begin right now thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net Quelques images: http://dodin.org/galerie_photo_web/expo/index.html

Romanian Wiki Translation

Hi all, Some months ago, I made the translation of the opensuse wiki in Romanian language. After submitting it, I was informed that the pages will be available in some weeks. Until now, I didn't saw my translation on the wiki. Unfortunately, today I saw the translation of some pages, but not the ones made by me. What happened with them? Reading the current translation I saw a lot of errors. Don't missunderstand me, my translation wasn't perfect, but at least there wasn't visible errors, a formal friendly language was used and also special Romanian characters were also used. Obviously, the current translation was made with a translation program, if not all, a lot of parts. On good example is on the Download page: "Aici gasiti ceea ce presa scrie despre SUSE Linux" which can be translated to English: "Here you will find what the writes press about SUSE Linux"... Ines? HCL entry

Hello, I have got a Fuhitsu Siemens laptop. which runs SUSE 9.3 and 10. I'd like to participate in wiki. I wanteed to add my pc sonfiguration and information. How can I do that? openSUSE's own tower of Babel

As is plainly obvious, the community is screaming for the ability to create content in their own language, with seemingly a new translation being added every few weeks lately, to the Documentation page. If I can make some observations and suggestions: 1. It is a bad idea to have language pages which no wiki admin speak and/or with a small number of active users, as a wiki is a balance of the freedom to publish and it being reviewed, edited and possibly deleted. 2. It follows on from point 1 that it is a bad idea to have a single wiki with pages in foreign languages. Whilst we are in a startup stage, awaiting the offical language wikis, this is not critical, but long-term, I see no option but to have as a policy that all pages be in the primary wiki language. 3. As there is a clear interest in other languages than the ones we were promised for the wiki, it is imperative that each additional language will not take the amount of time the first lot has taken. It is obviously serious, but can the community be given some hint to what the actual problem is causing month after month delay. Especially as there are some clever people around here, that could possibly help. 4. To be successful, each language added would need some core maintainers, to ensure that things are kept in order, as as wiki is a continuously changing beast. We don't want them to turn into http://www.opensuse.org.cn with no change since initial translation (somebody should at least update or delete the News on the front page). This may require openSUSE to open Wiki Adminship to trusted community members. It will be interesting to see how openSUSE handles having wiki languages which no openSUSE staff speak, as it means giving near total control to the community. Peter 'Pflodo' Flodin.

Can an Wiki Admin please delete pages marked for deletion.

It seems like a good time of year, to clean out the 50 odd articles and images that have been marked by users to be deleted. They are all automatically in the category: http://www.opensuse.org/Category:Pages_to_delete Ideally an admin should do some checking that the deletion is valid (ie so that someone has not added teh {{delete}} template to an important page). The http://www.opensuse.org/OpenSUSE:Deletion_Policy is an attempt to guide the act of deletion in an agreed and orderly manner (as deletions can be a touchy subject for contributors).
