[opensuse-web] Consider re/moving old archive from the wiki?
Hi, I just don't see how archive (weekly meetings, etc) should be part of the wiki. This effect the quality of the wiki itself since these pages are no longer relevant or valuable (for most members/users) and it makes up a large percentage of pages that have broken links, don't follow new templates, etc. I'm not saying we should throw it away, I understand that it can be handy at certain cases but similar to the mailing lists archive I suggest moving archive (including everything related to a specific timeframe and can't be updated) to a separate domain that fits the goal and has nothing to do with the wiki(maybe legacy.opensuse.org?) that is still accessible for future reference. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-web+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-web+owner@opensuse.org
Hi, Isn't Archive namespace for articles like you've mentioned? regards, Patryk "Sanchez" Zera P.S. Oh thank you, I actually wasn't aware of the namespace, while I knew about the "archive category" but that's is much smaller. So everything related to the archive should be moved under that namespace and fix its styling and links like usual? but that doesn't change my opinion though that wiki (for me at least) shouldn't have content tied to a specific timeline. I don't mind keeping a history of main points and releases to show how the distro developed in few organized pages because that will keep changing/updating unlike a weekly discussion from 10 years ago that don't make sense anymore and keeping them elsewhere in its raw form will make maintaining the wiki easier and more elegant, was there any discussion about that in the past? Can you point out specific content? Sorry I'm just starting out, the tasks I found were some were already in Archive but I found many of them in tasks because it has broken links to a deleted page "Ambassador/Events" and then I saw the page got deleted as redirect and following the redirect to "Advocates events" which is a redirect to "Upcoming events" and so on until I thought about the point of this as whole: - this the page that started all of this https://en.opensuse.org/Special:WhatLinksHere/Ambassador/Events - followed by an example of a page with broken links to the first one and not in the archive while was last modified in 2010 https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Weekly_news_meeting On Fri, Jun 21, 2019 at 8:45 PM Patryk Zera <patryk.zera@opensuse.org> wrote:

IMHO, openSUSE:Weekly_news_meeting is perfect candidate for Archive. It's content reveal what issues and topics were imporant for Weekly News Team. It can be used to not reinvent some things and avoid some pitfalls of operations of any news team. (One of the members of Weekly News Team is still in "heart" of community so he can maybe also comment on preserving this content or deleting it). Also, broken links were introduced by mindless(?) deleting of pages (technically, in this case, redirects). I'm not against deleting unnecessary pages/redirects but doing it without caring for existing links just introducess more mess. Just my two cents. Right. See also https://en.opensuse.org/Help:Namespace for details. Additionally, I should mention that the search results get a weight based on the namespace. The top search results will always be from the main, portal, openSUSE and SDB namespaces, and results from the archive namespace will be near the end of the search result list (but still before user pages). Only if your search term doesn't match anything in the "important" namespaces (main etc.), results from the archive namespace will show up as top search results. (This is slightly simplified and ignores some details and namespaces, but you should get the point.)
