Correct. If the saved search is owned by you, you can edit the saved search directly and overwrite the search. If the saved search is not owned by you and you give it the same name, it will create another saved search with that name with you as the owner, leaving the original saved search intact. To have a shared saved search change, it would have to be done by the saved search owner.

Edit the search parameters as needed. Then run the search.

At the bottom of the search result page, there's a "-> Save" button and
an input field for the search name next to it (after using "edit
search", it should default to the name of the search you edited).
Just click the "-> Save" button.
