Linksys cable/DSL router with 4 port hub?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Ok I have to machines and I am having trouble getting the two boxes to talk to each other. I saw on the linksys that there was a firmware update that may address these or similar issues. What I was wondering is, is anyone using these and if so do you have any hints or comments about the router and about any potential need (or not) related to a firmware update? TIA. Can you get to the internet on both machines? I have an SMC cable/router. Mine has a setup screen for the router. You may want to see if you can see both boxes....if you have that feature. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Tom Nielsen Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. 805.389.5435 x18 www.neuro-logic.com

I've got two of 'em and have no problems. First check to see that the little light is on when you plug the ethernet cable into it (obviously when the computer is on). If you think it may be defective you could test your two system's connectivity with a crossover cable. -- (o< //\ Powered by SuSE Linux V_/_ Virusproof. I have been using a Linksys 4 port DSL router for over 3 years without problems. One thing you need to do after you setup the router is then use it's IP address as the default route for all of your PC's and of course they all have to be in the same subnet. -- Ken Schneider unix user since 1989 linux user since 1994 SuSE user since 1998

The problem I'm having is not so much with both machine connecting the net you outside of the router. The issue is having the to machines talk to each other between the router. I think this is more a problem of setting the machines up to allow access to each other so I can control one from the other and vice verse. This is the firmware info from the website: elow is a list of enhancements made on the Router's firmware version 1.45.6: 1. Fixed the Enable option in the port forwarding option 2. Added PPPOE service name for PPPOE connection type 3. Modify host name field length from 31 to 39 4. FixED PPPoE mode change that would not restore MTU settings 5. Fixed web upgrade issue using iMAC (netscape/Internet Explore). 6. Fixed MSN messenger with Windows Messenger file transfer. 7. Fixed mulitple IPsec VPN pass-through connection 8. Added Xbox support(not certified by Microsoft). 9. Fixed mulitple PPTP VPN pass-through connections The "enhancement that caught my eye was #1, 3 and moreover 7. It could also be that I'm a novice insofar as setting things up such as VPN, lan/file sharing. I'm not exactly sure how to config this and googling doesn't seem to find what I'm looking for - which could translate into "asking the wrong question". Cheers, Curtis. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.2-rc1-SuSE (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE/aUzaiqnGhdjCOJsRAsASAKCArGI/yMfSRCFg6Eu/T64kYRJNcACeN3Vh u/fNiCBKxHkuhlBtA/Q8Wuk= =g+fp -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
