[opensuse] Conclusion of: Cannot burn DVDs from the command line
Hello,
I have just been put in front of a computer with Suse 10.1 x86_64, a NEC ND-4550 DVD burner on /dev/hdc and a few DVD-R disks. I need to copy some critical files to those dvds as soon as possibl,... What am I doing wrong, or missing?
To the best of my knowledge, right now, the only problem seems to have been either DVD-R discs which *I* blanked before attempting to burn ;-) because I hadn't slept enough, or truly defective ones. Starting again the whole procedure with another new box of DVD-R didn't show any of the problems I reported and all the files have been backed up safely. Sorry for all the confusion, and sincere thanks to all those who helped and made me learn several things that will be useful in other (less embarassing for me, I hope...) future occasions. Sorry also for using a broken email client like this, without threading and all, but I'm not at my place these days and this was quite an emergency. You may also expierence a problem related to DVD-R media which is not *universally* compatable with all burners (iirc). And after reading the lifetime expectation and failure rates related to the two media standards, DVD-R and DVD+R, I have converted *all* DVD-R media I have to the DVD+R standard and no longer purchase DVD-R media. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
