[opensuse] Using a USB-to-VGA (displaylink) adapter with 11.4
Howdy folks, I'm having trouble getting this adapter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038P1TP4 set up properly. THe kernel (2.6.38.6-29-desktop, tumbleweedin' here) properly recognizes the device but I cannot quite figure out how to properly configure X.org to use it. I'm a heavy user of xrandr since I regularly use an external monitor with my laptop, and it doesn't show up in the `xrandr -q` output either. Below is the relevant section of /var/log/messages and the `xrandr -q` output. More broadly, could someone recommend an USB to VGA adapter known to work in openSUSE 11.4 ? Last time I use it with 11.3, this kind of device cannot work in dual-monitor situation. Following up on this, I tinkered a bit with this over the weekend and I couldn't get anything to function as I had hoped. I started down the path of trying to at least get a virtual terminal up on the new framebuffer (/dev/fb1) using parts of this document: http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/Framebuffer-HOWTO.html Interestingly enough, I couldn't get mplayer to use /dev/fb1 as a video output device (mplayer -vo fbdev:/dev/fb1) either, mplayer would play the audio just fine, but nothing would be output. Rather strange. I'll keep digging and hope somebody comes up with a solution. - R.
