Hello all,
I am currently running Linux SuSE Professional 8.0. I upgrade/patch sendmail by downloading the sendmail package from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/8.0/n1/sendmail-8.12.3-76.i386.rpm. The command rpm -ihv sendmail-8.12.3-76.i386.rpm does not work, so I use the command rpm -ihv sendmail-8.12.3-76.i386.rpm --force. The problem that I always get is that my sendmail service always down/stop in a period of time. What's the problem?
Thanks, Chan Choth
I usually install "sendmail" (on my 8.0 system) using: rpm -Uvh sendmail-*.rpm and it installs without --force if you have to force it I would check for dependency issues by either using "kpackage" or pipe the output to a text file. rpm -Uvh sendmail-*.rpm 2>&1 | tee /home/<user>/sendmail.txt . As far as why send mail needs re-starting, that is in the script SuSE wrote; see http://www.suse.com/de/security/2003_035_sendmail.html . If you are not getting SuSE's security Bulletins, may may wish to subscribe to "[suse-security-announce]" it's a low traffic list which has good info..
