[opensuse] Ubiquiti Controller Software for Linux - DEB only?
I was planning on downloading the controller software, but see the Linux version is for Debian, etc. only. Does anyone know if this can be installed on openSUSE? tnx jk https://www.ui.com/download/unifi/

I tried installing that, but it doesn't seem to be on my system. I didn't see any error messages or anything.

Try alienhttps://software.opensuse.org/package/alien to convert DEB into RPM package for openSUSE.
alien -rck package.deb # Or something like that
I tried installing that, but it doesn't seem to be on my system.
No output if running in command line 'alien -h' ?

I just sent another note where I said I tried reinstalling again and now it's there.

This dependency is autogenerated by rpmbuild; it is fooled by non-x86 binaries included in this package (dynamic libraries armv7 and aarch64). RPM normally does not package these files in the first place (it would include conditional build depending on target arch).

Well, alien is just package format converter. You still need to fulfill all prerequisites and debconf is one of prerequisites in this case. RPM does not have anything similar at all, it is entirely deb specific. You may of course try to alien debconf itself ...
I guess I'll have to use Windows. :'(
You can also manually repackage for RPM if you really need it. It is not a rocket science.

That's a bit out of my experience. I'm using the Windows version. BTW, this Ubiquiti config is downright weird!

Here's the page where I found it: https://pkgs.org/download/libdl.so.2 The error message says 64 bit.

zypper se -s glibc shows glibc 2.32-2.1 as installed (on TW). And rpm -qal glibc | grep libdl shows libdl.so.2. This looks like Ubiquiti requires too old version of glibc, see overview https://software.opensuse.org/package/glibc I'm not sure if You can have more versions of glibc installed together. I'm not sure if You can somehow force alien or unifi to use newer version of glibc than it was supposed to work with. Do they have on the web some newer version of Ubiquiti which could require newer version of glibc...? -- Vojtěch Zeisek https://trapa.cz/ Komunita openSUSE GNU/Linuxu Community of the openSUSE GNU/Linux https://www.opensuse.org/

You shall generate your own.

Ubiquity delivers the controller with it's own self signed certificate. I have added support for replacing them with your own certificate. Maybe I shall document this and make it optional.

There is no magic here. Because Ubiquity does not offer source code I have simply packed their binary (UniFi.unix.zip, which can be dwonloaded from www.ubnt.com) and made it easier deployable on openSUSE. I know little about pfsense, but this approach shall work for it, too. Herbert

That shows what you get. However, when I try to convert that app, I get this error:

What do I do to get past this? This sort of thing is way out of my area of expertise.
Andrei already said to ignore it.
zypper se -s glibc
shows glibc 2.32-2.1 as installed (on TW). And
rpm -qal glibc | grep libdl
shows libdl.so.2.
This looks like Ubiquiti requires too old version of glibc, see overview https://software.opensuse.org/package/glibc I'm not sure if You can have more versions of glibc installed together. I'm not sure if You can somehow force alien or unifi to use newer version of glibc than it was supposed to work with.

As mentioned in another note, I have found a version for 15.2, but that gives me certificate errors. See my previous post. I recently bought a Ubiquiti WiFi access point. This is a very capable device, with lots of "fun" management features, though perhaps a touch overkill for a home user. ;-) https://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_1056_356&item_id=095475 The controller software is capable of managing a large corporate network, switches and all. You can even manage multiple sites through "the cloud".

I just saw it. My point is, when you get the idea of tinkering with glibc, it is time to abort that route and reconsider: something is wrong. In this case, you found a proper package; you only need a certificate. No, no idea why.

I know the name, but not what they are.

The page manager is somewhat silly. When I try to open the link it first asks me "English or French?". Well, OK. Then it asks me to identify all photos that contain a motorcycle. And finally leaves me at the home page. I pasted again your URL, and this time I got it. But then I click at Overview or specifications, and I get nothing.

I don't see any of that nonsense. I'm just taken to the page. As for the overview & specs, they "improved" the site a while ago and generally lost that info, along with a link to the manufactures site. However, Unifi makes corporate grade networking gear, including APs. They have all sorts of features that would be useful on a large network, such as handover between APs, signal management and much more. You can find some YouTube videos about their gear. Here's a link to the controller manual, so you can get an idea of what it can do: https://dl.ubnt.com/guides/UniFi/UniFi_Controller_V5_UG.pdf It's "only" 178 pages. ;-) The software can be installed on computers or tablets, but they also sell a device that runs it. BTW, with this AP, my performance is about twice what I got with my TP-Link AP, which was 802.11n on 2.4 GHz only. It also supports 5 GHz and 802.11ac. I get even better performance with my devices that support ac. For example, my cell phone gets over 200 Mb/s now. Also, that TP-Link had a bug with VLANs & multicasts which meant I couldn't run IPv6 on my guest WiFi.
Never mind. I installed again and now it's there. tnx On 2020-11-17 1:52 p.m., James Knott wrote:

Try alien https://software.opensuse.org/package/alien to convert DEB into RPM package for openSUSE.
I'd strongly discourage trying alien i've had it completely brick systems. Ark is able to open deb files so i've always extracted the files and gone from there. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B

There actually is another one but it's not listed on the website. All you need to do is to replace the deb file in the link with UniFi.unix.zip https://dl.ui.com/unifi/6.0.36/UniFi.unix.zip Jonas
