Carlos - You good with Tbird 78 and PGP/(gpg) - All working?
Carlos, Just a follow up to the long thread earlier where you moved from Tbird 68 - 78 and went through the enigmail loss and migration to GPG. Did it all work out? Are you using a master-password to prevent your private keys from being stored unencrypted under your ~/.thunderbird directory? Do you have to enter the master password for every message? Still on 68 and will have time over the break to be tormented with it. Any pointers not in the last thread you found -- would be welcomed :p -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

Nope... Something was solved with an small update, what was it? Ah, the setting to not attach the public key when sending. Also, enigmail got updated on the repo to a compatible version, so that the wizard can (and did) run. All the other bugs are active.

I have a master key since ever, to protect the mail account passwords. With the activation of the enigmail migration wizard, the settings were reset again. This account, for example, is using the internal store for the secret password, but others are not. My intention is to eventually delete them and use the external store.

No, no. I'm not sure when the password is asked (because this account uses the internal store and others the external), I have not "registered" the pattern, but certainly it is not always. When using the external store it asks for the PGP key, which is longer in my case. And I suspect it asks too often, but again I have not "registered" the pattern.

I think I noticed the other day another issue, but did not write it up, and now I have forgotten what it was. Known Issues: setting to not attach key is ignored - solved does not recognize inline signed PGP mails 78.4.0 erases or empties the contact book -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. For example, when sending this email, the first of the morning after restore from hibernation, it did NOT ask for any password. This is BAD. (Using internal PGP store on this mail account) -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Thank you Carlos, The feedback is much appreciated. At least now I have a checklist of what to be on the lookout for. I'll probably put the upgrade off until after new years and then I'll probably just use a VM to test on so I can snapshot before and just toss it all if I get to put out with it.... Here's to hoping... -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

I just updated to 78.6.0. Using external PGP, I still can not save drafts. It still does not recognize inline PGP signatures. S/MIME signing still fails (open bug for a year or two). It seems to recognize the signature block, but not the list footer. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)
