SuSE 9.2 OpenOffice Additional Fonts Problem [SOLVED]
We have licensed some specialized Type I fonts for graphics work, and so each time we do a new Linux install we have to manually install the fonts so that OpenOffice can find them. Under SuSE 8.x through 9.2, the process is supposed to be the same: 1. Use the KDE Control Center in Administrator mode to add the fonts. 2. Copy the afm files to the directory in which the fonts were installed. 3. Start OpenOffice and the new fonts will appear in the font selector drop down. But in SuSE 9.2, this procedure didn't work. What we found was that, when the font files were copied, SuSE renamed the font files to all lowercase. The afm files (as well as the original font files) were mixed case, so, as far as OpenOffice was concerned, no matching afm files, no font to display. Once we renamed the afm files to be all lowercase, everything worked. We searched in the Administrators Guide and the portal, but came up with nothing. Not sure why this new behavior was introduced, but thought it would be helpful to know for anyone adding additional Type I fonts to their 9.2 system.
