Strange problems with browsers and thunderbird
I installed SuSE Tumbleweed 20220202 snap since I read about some problems with SuSE Leap 15.3 . Installation failed to adress the online repositories but installed anyway. Afterwards I tried the installed firefox which constantly fails for certain webpages like www.suse.com www.nvidia.de github.com Funnily enough other sites like www.fosshub.com are working ok, there is no network problem since Windows 10 on the same machine and a laptop with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on the same network are doing just fine. Thunderbird refuses connections to email servers which are working fine on my Ubuntu Laptop. Then I tried chromium from the repos: same problem. Opera from the repos: same problem. I also tried the Mozilla version from here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/97.0.1/ and the Mozilla version of thunderbird from here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/91.6.1/ Still the same problem. Started firefox with a complete new ~/.mozilla : no change. What is wrong with Tumbleweed nowadays? Do I have to say goodbye to OpenSuSE after more than 20 years? :-( BR

It is openSUSE Tunbleweed, not SuSE.

All those sites have only IPv4 address.
Funnily enough other sites like www.fosshub.com are working ok,
This site has both IPv4 and IPv6. I do not say that this is the reason but this is the only information we can gather externally.

You do not troubleshoot networking problem using applications on the top of the stack. You start on the bottom. Do you have IP address? ip a Do you have proper routes? ip r ip -6 r Does access by IP address work? ping 8.8.8.8 ping 2001:4860:4860::8844 Does DNS resolution work? ping dns.google Does ping to your sites work? ping www.suse.com ping www.nvidia.de ping github.com If any step fails, you stop and fix it before going to the next step.
Do I have to say goodbye to OpenSuSE after more than 20 years?
You cannot because OpenSuSE does not exist. If you mean openSUSE - it is up to you.
nm-applet/nm had "Manual" instead of "Automatic (DHCP)" in the IP4 Settings. Very strange since I took Tumbleweed "out of the box" so to say. Anyway...it works now. Sorry for hurting someones feelings about SuSE, OpenSuSE and so on. BR Am 27/02/2022 um 17:26 schrieb Andrei Borzenkov:

I would guess that decision is entirely up to you! But I would not consider the statement and inspiring the need to assist you. explain what "I installed SuSE Tumbleweed 20220202 snap" ^^^^ as I fail to understand, Tumbleweed is a distribution, not a package. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet oftc What sort of day was it? That is what I meant: "New Tumbleweed snapshot 20220202 released!" https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/P... Sorry for shortening "snapshot" to "snap" . Am 27.02.22 um 17:28 schrieb Patrick Shanahan:
