Sendmail service always stop in a period of time when upgrading/patching
Hello all, I am currently running Linux SuSE Professional 8.0. I upgrade/patch sendmail by downloading the sendmail package from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/8.0/n1/sendmail-8.12.3-76.i386.rpm. The command rpm -ihv sendmail-8.12.3-76.i386.rpm does not work, so I use the command rpm -ihv sendmail-8.12.3-76.i386.rpm --force. The problem that I always get is that my sendmail service always down/stop in a period of time. What's the problem? Thanks, Chan Choth

I assume it is absolutely normal to stop a service you are upgrading/patching/reinstalling. How on earth do you expect the running copy to be the new one if you don't stop (ie, remove from memory) the old one first? -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
