Gimp does a lot for retouching but I have yet to find a way to fix focus problems. Can an out of focus photo be fixed with gimp?? I suppose it depends how far out of focus the photo is. If the problem is slight, I have been able to get a photo to appear sharper using Filters | Enhance | Sharpen (I think the default is 10%, which seems to do the trick for me). I suspect all it is doing is kicking up the contrast slightly, but it has made some pics look nicer. - Thomas Long -- Using SuSE Linux 8.2

Not really. You can fool the eye into thinking it's sharper by a combination of Unsharp Mask on the main subject and blurring the background but you can't "correct" unsharpness. -- Vic Ayres http://www.buckiechoral.org.uk

Can an out of focus photo be fixed with gimp?? You can try either Refocus or Iteractive Refocus. They are available in the gimp registry. I have tried to use refocus but it seems not to work for me. The Iteractive refocus works but it takes getting used to. YMMV. But these are the two that come to mind. Of course, you can try sharpen or unsharp mask if the picture is not too badly out of focus.

I did not see that option in the Gimp menu. Is that an addon? CWSIV On Thu, 11 Sep 2003 05:33:47 -0400 Marshall Heartley <heartley@earthlink.net> writes:

The other stuff is plugins that will try and refocus your picture. I have installed both but it seems that refocus doesn't work for me. I will try that one again when I have time. Iteractive refocus does work but requires some learning. -- Marshall "Nothing is impossible, we just do not have all the anwsers to make the impossible, possible."

Yes they are both plugins that you will need to get at the Gimp plugin registry. You will need to install them in order to use them. -- Marshall "Nothing is impossible, we just do not have all the anwsers to make the impossible, possible."
