FYI: NetGear broadband routers - get the word out
This is more of a Community Service Bulletin than an actual SuSE linux issue unless you have one of the affected broadband routers. http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~plonka/netgear-sntp/ is a great read on a mistake NetGear made on some of their router's firmware. 700,000+ devices on the internet flooding one NTP time server at the UofW. NetGear has stepped up and fixed the problem but how do they notify all those users AND get them to update the firmware? Most users would probably never even know they were a part of this issue anyway! This is from a Slashdot article in case you need feedback from lots of people: http://developers.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/22/1454233. Affected devices: DG814, RP614, RP614v2, MR814, HR314. IF you get or have one of these make sure you update the firmware.!.! If you know of anyone that has one of these NetGear routers, MAKE THEM update their firmware. I don't have any experience with these specific devices but NetGear gear has been good to me in the past. There is mention of some 80,000 odd SMC routers having a problem in Australia within the University of Wisconsin article. Stan
