My SuSE Linux is very slow sometimes.
Dear my friends.... I wonder why my SuSE Linux 8.1 becomes very slow sometimes. It becomes slow if my harddisk suddenly being busy because of an unknown process. I guess because fsck but I am not sure. What is the unknown process actually? And how can I stop /cease it ? Next time it happens, run "top" in an xterm and see which app has high cpu usage. Then kill the app, and find out how to avoid it. -- use Perl; #powerful programmable prestidigitation

You system shouldn't slow down that much. It could be that dma is disabled. That means a high system load when your hard drive is heavily accessed. Check it with as su with: hdparm /dev/hdx or /dev/sdx where x is the letter of your hard drive.
