I recently installed Gnome2 on my 8.2 system and have noticed the below errors. Any help would be appreciated. I've also noticed that it takes several minutes for the log out screen to display when trying to log off. This socket already exists indicating esd is already running. Exiting... This means you're trying to start a second instance of esd for some reason.
Gnome-Message: gnome_execute_async_with_env_fds: returning -1
No idea what this means - suggest you google it
FAMOpen failed, FAMErrno=0
Gnome likes to have the FAM daemon running Install fam-server and run rcfam start Running insserv fam will make sure it starts at boot in future. -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.2). I haven't noticed the errors (they could be there, I haven't looked), but I certainly have noticed a big delay when login off: not always, but some times. I can still work on any open window while I wait for it to log off, except the panel that doesn't respond. Once I killed the panel, and perhaps something else, and it did logged off, but my configuration was destroyed and I had to delete it. When the delay happens, I simply hit ctrl-alt-backspace, and be done with it. No complains. This is using the default SuSE packages with their patches. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

I've noticed the same problem with Gnome 2. But, it only seems to happen when I try to logoff shortly after logging on (e.g. I logon and 1 minute later try to logoff). If I'm logged on for a good period of time, there appears to be no delay in logging off. Rick ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carlos E. Yes, that's true. The soonest I log off, the more chances I get of delay logging off. To be specific: trying to log off a minute after login in will crash the panel, certainly. Trying to log off hours later may or may not crash the panel or delay log off. And ctrl-alt-bkspace solves it, till next time. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
