Re: [SLE] Yast2 crashes during Suse 8.2 instalation - 1404Segmentationfault
That makes sense, thanks. As I have only dial up connection to
internet at home, full ftp installation is not really option for me (or is it?). However, I can get the ISO here in the office no problem. Can I still use the distribution CDs for the rest of the installation? .... I'm not sure, that I understand what exactly you are recommending me to do. ... If I use the distro as the source of RPMs I'll still end up with the same kernel (as I have now) after the initial boot (won't I?) regardless the boot CD. Unless I would do some very basic installation over
yes, actually you'll have a problem if you have only dialup, because a basic install would be around 200Mb :( unless you have a friend wgo could retrieve the FTP directory on a HDD in order to be able to perform a HDD install, ftp/hdd install is not an option for you :( I based my recomandation upon the fact that I've noticed differences between packages and even between the boot files... knowledge. Could you please give me some sort of cook book what you have done yourself?
Thanks a lot for your time, Tomas

yes, actually, you'll be surprised to find out that on the FTP version there are new versions of the CD version packages.
that's why I adviced you in this direction... and, besides, I've installed the FTP version on a P200/32MB machine :)

Hi Radu,
Thanks for your advice, I'll definitely try it during the weekend and I'll let you know how it went on. Would you mind to tell me how this should be different from the distribution CDs please? Just want to become smarter a bit .... :-)
Thank you, Tomas

you may want to try a ftp-install with ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/8.2/boot/boot.iso as boot image
