[opensuse] Setting up apache2 virtual hosts on 11.3
Has anyone tried to use the Yast2 HTTP module to set up virtual hosts in apache2? (on openSUSE 11.3) I've been fighting with it for a while and gave up.... and opted for a manual config. What I did: - Install the Yast2 HTTP module + apache2 - Start the http module and define two name-based virtual hosts - Finish and restart apache2 Result.. the last defined host is the only host served up. I've tried over and over to get the Yast component to configure things correctly... and it's always ending up with the same broken result. I did a manual config entering the virtual host config into default-server.conf, removing the vhosts conf file Yast created, restarted apache2, and everything works perfectly. Open Yast using that manually edited default-server.conf and re-do the virtual host config... and I'm back to the last configured host being the only one served up. it seems like whatever Yast is writing, apache2 isn't reading correctly. Is there anyone here with experience setting up virtual hosts that managed to get the Yast2 http module to generate the right info? (I'm thinking it might be an issue with the guy sitting in the chair driving the mouse) C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I use my own php script which I run from command line. It restarts my apache and updates my vhosts.conf end etc/hosts. I can describe how it is set up at my comp, if needed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The problem isn't that I can't set up vhosting... I've got that working by building my own default-server.conf. The problem is convincing the http component of Yast to produce the same results. I'm wondering.. does anyone else use this module to set up their webservers, and do they actually succeed in getting vhosts to work... or is it possibly broken/buggy and has been that way for a while since everyone just edits the .conf files themselves (or uses custom scripts). I've always just edited the conf files myself, even for basic config let along vhosts. It's probably like the bootloader stuff in yast. It's there and probably can do everything, but it's effectively undocumented and therefore almost useless. -- bkw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have never used the YaST module for apache - for one thing, I started with webservers before it existed, for another, I think YaST is straying a little too far. If I were you, I'd take a look in bugzilla and see if any issues have been reported. And if not, report one :-) -- Per Jessen, Zürich (15.4°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm not sure what to report yet :-) My first concern is eliminating the PEBKAC factor... making sure it's not just me being a numpty. Everyone I've talked to about it just edits the .conf files directly... I can do that too (that's how I sorted the vhost thing in the end) but.. it's be nice if the Yast module worked too. I'll tinker more.. maybe I can pull together something intelligent for a bug report. Yup, it was me. I was filling in the information incorrectly. Type the right things.. and it works fine. Probably could be documented better :-) but... it works fine. Next thing to sort out... getting my secure web directories working again. C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
