[opensuse] How to disable synaptiks/touchpad in KDE4?
Hello: This occurs in openSUSE 13.1 with its default KDE4 (4.11.5). Whenever I login to KDE session a message window pops up. Originally I did not have this message after login, it started only some time ago. The title of the window is: "Error - synaptiks" The message in the window is: "No touchpad found No Touchpad found in this system. If the system has a touchpad, please make sure that the synaptiks drive is properly installed and configured. If your touchpad is not found, though the driver is installed and configured correctly, please compile detailed information about your touchpad hardware and report this issue to the issue tracker." I don't have touchpad attached to the computer. Why does KDE try to start it? I searched for touchpad in KDE4 settings (systemsettings) and found only one instance of touchpad called "touchpad configuration" under Hardware/Input devices/Touchpad. But that shows the very same message as the above, and there is no any option to disable touchdpad. I found that in system tray I have a synaptiks icon (little triangle) but its menu's "Touchpad on" line is not checked and the "Configure synaptiks" line is grayed out. I checked yast too but couldn't find synaptiks or touchap setting there. How can I disabel it and get rid of this annoying popup message? Thanks. Could you tell me, please, how I can remove an item from the system tray in KDE 4? I know how to remove an item from the taskbar or from the panel, but couldn't find how to remove an app icon from the system tray. I can only remove the system tray as a whole. right-click in the system tray (likely next to th small arrow for hidden stuff), then select 'Configure System Tray'. Check 'General->Extra Items', there's a Touchpad entry you can de-select -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks. Unfortunately there is no synaptiks among the entries so I cannot deselect it. But synaptiks is shown in the display list and is set to automatic (view/hide). ... OK, I changed the view to "always show". Now the synaptiks icon is visible in the system tray and I can click/right click it. Right click => It has a quit option, I click quit. Synaptiks icon disappears from the systray. ... I logged out from KDE4 session and logged in again. Synaptiks is not restarted. no systray synaptiks icon, no error message. OK, it seems this fixed it. Thanks again, Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

That'd an old and unsupported version, I believe. Is it possible to simply uninstall "synaptiks"? -- Liam Proven - Technical Writer, SUSE Linux s.r.o.
