If you do not remove the original Perl package - I'd say "yes". Make sure that you do not have two different perl packages in different subdirectories.

The purpose of the rebuild is to remove -ldb and -lgdbm from the "link line".

I'd recommend to use the SRPM and modify it. Good luck!
