Well, I'm hoping someone can give me a hint because I'm lost. Konq has lost the ability to convert cd's into mp3. Yes, I have lame and cdparanoia installed. When I click on Audio CD Browser it says that audiocd:/ protocal not supported. I've also seemed to misplace kscd in that last package switch/breakdown/fuckwithben thing with the 3.1.3 packages that have been further broken down into smaller packages. I know that it's good to get things more modular but this switching package schemes everytime KDE has a dot release is getting old. Can someone hip me how to get Konq to once again rip CD's and which package kscd has been placed into now so I can install it AGAIN. *sigh* This is just silly. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

I hadn't noticed it was gone on mine as well. Did you update kde via apt? I don't know why, but on mine kdemultimedia3 and kdemultimedia3-extra would not install via apt (packaging problem?). I just downloaded those two packages, then rpm -Uvh kdemultimedia*.rpm, and they both installed without a hitch. Maybe check them out. I now have both again. -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM. The package that I unpacked and moved the files over from is this one.. kdemultimedia3-3.1.3-9.i586.rpm When I do an "apt-get install kdemultimedia3' then it wants to delete the following... zeus:~ # apt-get install kdemultimedia3 Reading Package Lists... Done Building Dependency Tree... Done The following packages will be REMOVED: kdeaddons3-sound kdemultimedia3-devel kdemultimedia3-extra kdemultimedia3-midi kdemultimedia3-sound kdemultimedia3-video kdemultimedia3-video-xine The following NEW packages will be installed: kdemultimedia3 So it looks like either a packaging problem or an apt issue. I don't know which. Apt usually won't install packages that contain conflicting files and I've not had this issue before. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

It seems something with the packages being removed: rbos@linux:kde/applications> rpm -q --qf "%{OBSOLETES}\n" kdemultimedia3-midi kdemultimedia3-sound | sort kdemultimedia3 kdemultimedia3 rbos@linux:kde/applications> rpm -qp --qf "%{OBSOLETES}\n" kdemultimedia3-3.1.3-9.i586.rpm (none) As you can see the kdemultimedia3-sound tells that it obsoletes kdemultimedia3. Now the something is: is apt correct by proposing to remove the pkgs kdemultimedia3-* as they obsoletes kdemultimedia3.... Or are the kdemultimedia3-* wrong, because they are not obsoleting kdemultimedia3???? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Well..from what I can tell. No the kdemultimedia3-* packages do not obsolete the kdemultimedia3 pkg because it's the only package that has kscd and the kio_audio stuff in it. It appears to need all seven of the package it wants to remove and the 8 "obsoleted" package to be complete yet it seems to be one or the other with apt. I'd say something to Adrian but I'm afraid I'd just get "it's an apt problem" since SuSE doesn't support apt...even though this has not happened before to me. -- Ben Rosenberg ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org ----- If two men agree on everything, you can be sure that only one of them is doing the thinking.

Ben I agree, one need all 8 to have a complete kdemultimedia3 environment. So, why are the kdemultimedia3-* pkgs stating that they obsoletes kdemultimedia3? Seems a left over from the past, I assume, but it is incorrect now :(

That is what they may say, also because the kde packages in the supplementary directory are not supported. But of course we hope that they (Adrian) will accept the "bug" and provide updated packages.... -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

I also just filled out a bug report on their feedback webform. I downloaded the src.rpm, and it has to be an error to say the various packages obsolete kdemultimedia3 without providing the same files. I'll check out all the devel packages I would need to install to rebuild the package, but I would rather Adrian / Suse fixed it as that would help all of us. Right now, it is a choice to have the kde multimedia functioning and not using apt, or using apt and losing the multimedia functionality. :-( -- Joe Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Web Address: http://www.mydestiny.net/~joe_morris Registered Linux user 231871 God said, I AM that I AM.
