Except for not all apps showing up in the menus, most everything is excellent with 9.2! I did a clean install, EXCEPT for my /home partitian. On this box, at least, this is the FIRST time that I've had NO problems reading a CD in the CD writer and not having to play games getting the drive to open to remove a disc!! FINALLY the auto mount/unmount seems to work correctly. GOOD job SUSE. I used Yast to get the nVida driver, and SAX2 installed it perfectly. I did notice that a good deal of the good 3D screensavers AREN'T included - NOT NICE! Also, XCDRoast wasn't included either. 'Course, these might be available on the DVD, but I'm like many other's who DON'T have one and I'm NOT about to add one to this old box. I see that xcdroast is not listed in the included packages for 9.2 Professional. This is major loss and it seems that many good packages are being dumped in favor of KDE packages. NEdit, X-CD-Roast are but two of the needed packages professionals need. I sure hope this trend does not continue. /Dee

Easily remedied, pull the sources for xcdroast-0.98alpha15, explode it, ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc make checkinstall rpm -ivh /usr/src/packages/RPMS/i386/xcdroast-0.98alpha15-1.i386.rpm I eventually had to do an install of 9.2 without reformatting the partitions (a long story), xcdroast is still intact. Alternately, get a pre-built binary RPM from PBOne: <URL: http://rpm.pbone.net/>, search for xcdroast. There are SuSE 9.x packages containing version 0.98alpha15 for i586 and i686, among others.

At the moment I have no any SuSE 9.0 machine easily available, I converted my own SuSE 9.0 into a SuSE 9.2 one. I have some more rpms for 9.0 in my ' 'to do' list. I think this next week I will able to build some of them, I will try to include xcdroast. Guillermo

I did it. It seems to run properly. Please tell me if any problem. Is the same code that SuSE used in 9.1. Tomorrow morning they will be available in the fast mirror: ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-gbv/rpms/SuSE_9.2 And the impatients can already download them from my limited-slow-snail server: ftp://ftp.oxixares.com/pub/rpms/SuSE_9.2 Guillermo. - -- Guillermo Ballester Valor gbv@oxixares.com Ogijares, Granada SPAIN Linux user #117181. I agree with Dee! I use fvwm2 and not KDE because of the hogging of many services. One is "sound" - Run a good old FM radio program and pull up a mixer in KDE only to be told that /dev/mixer isn't available.

That has to do with ownership and permissions, not hogging of resources. Most things in KDE use resmgr nowadays

This helps, albeit a bandaid to the real problem. With DVD media available, we could easily have many apps like this. This makes me feel like the was Solaris went down hill. Dee

Question is who will build them? Resources at Novell are a speck on the map compared to MS and you don't get a fraction of the stuff that is included in SuSE (for many more platforms), so I don't see the problem. There are many things I use that SuSE don't supply for very good reasons, the remedy is often a very few simple steps. Solaris actually had a hill to go down? I haven't ever seen it up. You're not alone! Even though the system will find my Crystal Audio on-board audio, there's no wrapper, so I don't have sound, and I don't know how to fix it........this seems to be the 1 remaining problem I have with 9.2.
