I've got to the point that I stick to the latest esr track (currently 45.8) just to avoid this type issue. With Gtk+3/4 a continually moving target, you are just asking for gtk-primary-button-warps-slider type issues :p -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

I don't think it is related to that at all, there is another error printed just after that reference. it is the first Firefox crash I remember having that keeps happening after --safe-mode. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))

The whole error doesn't make much sense and the slider looks unrelated to the libcurl message. The gtk-primary-button-warps-slider is just a scrollbar property that determines whether clicking on the scrollbar causes the window to scroll to the click position or scroll by a single page in the respective direction. (according to the manual) That has nothing to do with the curl/libcurl failure. The following (3 days ago) seems to suggest a permission problem? Apparently running as root will work (see comment): http://askubuntu.com/questions/892147/firefox-crashes-on-ubuntu-with-xfce -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

I've never tried. I see it is a tar, there are no instructions in the download page. How is it installed? https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/?scene=2 -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))

Before you try another build, try a creating and using a virgin profile. firefox -ProfileManager

firefox -ProfileManager
I tried with different users that never browse. Root and another plain user. Now I also tried creating the new profile, also crashes.

As with any such file, generic instructions apply:
1-choose a place for its content to live 2-extract its content 3-run it
I put such in /usr/local/ by entering its 2nd level in mc, selecting all, and hitting F5.
ok, I can do that easily.
e.g. put in /usr/local/ffe52/, /usr/local/ffnxt/, /usr/local/fftest/
e.g. to run: /usr/local/fftest/firefox -no-remote -P fftest
And does not crash!
If you'll be using it for more than just testing, you'll want to make your own menu entry for it instead of opening from a run command box or terminal.
no problem :-) -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))

Sorry, yes, I use the mozilla.org versions as well. Running kde3, I just install to /opt. Just # cd /opt (if you have a current install from mozilla.org) # rm firefox_??? && mv firefox firefox_521 (whatever the new-old version is) # tar -xjf /path/to/new/firefox.tar.bz2 done :) Then just use kmenu to create a default .desktop file for firefox. I have had zero problems over the past year or doing it that way (since FF 38) -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.

I understand that "works for me" is of little help, but it works for me in the same environment. I also do not see any output when starting firefox in terminal. So it sounds like something in your environment is different. Any third-party repository?

Several, of course. But not for XFCE, it is the original. If you haven't read the full thread, it crashes in failsafe mode, with a new profile, as another user, as root... But the upstream tar doesn't crash. That's the gist of it. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.2 x86_64 "Malachite" (Minas Tirith))
