evolution contacts from backup ?
Hello, I backed up evolution contacts on my 8.2 workstation. Then installed 9.0 and it's working great. Is there a way to import the contacts now though ? Also, a very nice friend gave me an Adaptec 3840 with a Compaq drive array today. SuSE 9.0 added the controller and drives painlessly and now I have : # df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda1 5.1G 154M 4.9G 4% / /dev/sda3 204M 37M 168M 18% /boot /dev/sdb3 4.6G 433M 4.2G 10% /home /dev/sdb2 3.1G 663M 2.4G 22% /opt /dev/sda4 12G 1.2G 11G 11% /usr /dev/sdb1 1.1G 142M 887M 14% /var /dev/sdc1 17G 125M 17G 1% /work /dev/sde1 17G 464M 17G 3% /work2 /dev/sdf1 17G 33M 17G 1% /work3 /dev/sdg1 17G 33M 17G 1% /work4 /dev/sdh1 17G 33M 17G 1% /work5 /dev/sdi1 8.5G 33M 8.5G 1% /work6 tmpfs 252M 0 252M 0% /dev/shm Finally, some nice extra HD space. Thanks in advance. Dee

Yes, you can just copy the ~/evolution/local/Contacts/addressbook.db from the old install to the new one. -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 9.0). Nope. I tried that, made sure permissions were correct, etc., but it still brings up a cached version of what was a few addresses I had in there previously. Kinda frustrating. Dee

If Evolution is not fully shut down I have had similar problems. To shut down Evolution pre 1.4 use "killev" after exiting Evolution. For Evolution 1.4.x exit Evolution and then use "evolution --force-shutdown". Copying from the source location of the addressbook does not necessarily need to be fully shut down, but copying to the new location needs to have Evolution shut down. Copy ~/evolution/local/Contacts/addressbook.db from your previous set-up and overwrite on the new. This always works in SuSE 8.2 with all versions of Evolution and has so far worked on the only attempt in SUSE 9. -- Ralph Sanford - If your government does not trust you, rsanford@telusplanet.net - should you trust your government?
