[opensuse] How to connect to MSSQL database?
I seam to be having problems using perl or php to connect to a MSSQL database. The docs from both claim MSSQL support is built in, but the errors I get kind of suggest otherwise. Does Suse do something weird that I need to turn on, or do I have to break the Suse RPM manager and compile my own with the support built in? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The support is separated into packages, so that people who don't want it don't have to install it. I don't find that particularly weird For perl support, install perl-DBD-mysql, for php install php5-mysql -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

At least with PHP, you cannot connect to MSSQL at the moment, since there is no official nor Buildservice only packages. (altough I already packaged the needed libraries, Im yet to enable mssql support in buildservice PHP packages) I have no idea of perl.

Is there a php-sybase module? That worked with peecee sql, last I checked. Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi List, I just got one of those switch boxes to change from computer to computer, and when I hop from server to another I loose the mouse, keyboard is ok, but how to avoid/fix this problem? The box is a cheap KVM 4 port switch ,model kys-104, box says it does support Linux, so I don't know wher is the problem. Any advice, my mouse if an (gasp) Microsoft intellimouse optical usb, connected to the box using a usb to ps2 convertor, I remember having the same problem with early versions of redhat, I have a suse 10.2 and Centos 4 which I need to switch to from time to time. There's your problem. PS2 was never intended for hotplug.
No, but a properly designed PS/2 KVM maintains signals on all its computer side interfaces regardless of which one is currently being sent signals from the real mouse and keyboard. I've had good luck with Linksys PS/2 KVMs. It's my fancy (and expensive) DVI / USB KVM that messes up. It doesn't seem to bother my iMac, but it gives one of my Linux boxes indigestion with the appearance (according to the kernel logs) of frequent USB device disappearance and reappearance. Depends on the quality.... I've been through a lot of them that didn't work, and the symptoms were as the OP posted. I'd convert to usb everywhere and see if the problem goes away. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There are (were?) some cheap KVMs that were essentially big mechanical switches that didn't do that. However, I've got what was a fairly expensive, good quality switch (Protec Bytelan) that exhibits that problem. My question is why does it affect only Linux? I've never seen the problem with OS/2 or Windows. Also, with the 2.4 kernel, it was possible to clear the problem, but not 2.6, by switching to a text console and back to desktop. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi List Thanks for all of the responses, I think I would return the item and get a usb switch instead, or get a Link Sys switch, I heard those are better. J -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for all of the responses, I think I would return the item and get a usb switch instead, or get a Link Sys switch, I heard those are better. I would probably recommend that approach. One of the things I preferred about the Cybex and the Linksys is that they both responded to a keyboard sequence to switch, so I didn't have to press a button. Also some of the new ones have a speaker port so you can share the speakers or headphones.
Another anomaly I observed (with both the Linksys and Belkin) is that
if the (SuSE LInux) laptop went into sleep mode, it would lose the
mouse. Not sure why. If I recall, this happened on 2 different laptops
and 2 different versions of SuSE Linux.

I bought an IOgear 8-port PS/2 based switch last summer. I've got various SUSE boxes hooked up (2.4 & 2.6 kernels) I've got a Win2K & a Win2003 box. So far zero problems, but I often run the Linux boxes in pure CLI. That's a common problem that I've only seen with Linux. I haven't had it happen with Windows or OS/2. With earlier kernels, you could clear the problem by switching to a command terminal and then back to the desktop. However, that doesn't seem to work with the 2.6 kernel. I've heard a USB mouse (that's USB all the way, not through a PS/2 adapter) and KVM works, but don't have any experience with one of those. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I've seen this happen with an old version of Windows. I'm not sure whether the problem exists with the OS or with the computer itself. But I do know the cure: you don't use a passive switch box, you have to buy a more expensive electronic switch box, and the problem should go away. Buy the switch with a money-back guarantee, in case it doesn't. BTW, you should be able to switch printers with a cheapie. I believe. --doug -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
The box is a cheap KVM 4 port switch ,model kys-104, box says it does support Linux, so I don't know wher is the problem. I used to have a 4 port Linksys (low end) PS/2 KVM, and recently I switched to a Belkin 2-port USB that I use at work to switch between my corporate Windows Thinkpad and the HP Integrity (IA64) server under my desk. It generally works fine. The reason that some of these are not supported under Linux is that they supply software you can use to switch without having to press a button. On occasion, I have switched and lost the keyboard, but a switch back and forth usually clears the

Umm what? MS website for linux drivers??
Let me explain again in greater detail.
This is a suse 10 box, that needs to connect to a MS SQL database,
trying PHP or perl. I think they both claim to have support for MSSQL
compiled in, however that doesn't seam to be the case, or there needs
to be something werd I have to do to enable it. (wouldn't surprise me,
had to do all kinds of weird things w/ Suse since 8.x to get compiled
in features to work)
Let me State again, Database is MS SQl, not MySQL.
it has been a few weeks since I went on vacation and am now picking
this project back up, so I don't have exacts right now.
