This isn't all that much of a stellar announcement, except when you consider other factors. Ballmer just announced that Linux is MickySoft's #1 threat, a firm in Israel HAS been working on a Linux port of Office, and it would be easier to port FROM a MAC OS-X version to Linux if they had to. Office is THE "cash cow" for MickySoft, and not only has 'Bloze2000 sales been a disappointment to them but Office2000 as well. Office accounts for 46% to 47% of their SALES revenue, (note that what really keeps their stocks viable are their investments), and sales are way behind what was anticipated due to market rejection ("why should we upgrade"), and the FREE availability and stability of StarOffice. MickySoft obviously doesn't want to support Linux, however, the time may soon come where they don't have any choice. I wouldn't be all that surprised to see them "hedge their bets" and port the MAC OS-X version to Linux. Fred _______________________ http://www.zdnet.com/zdnn/stories/news/0,4586,2673312,00.html
