This is rather a long log file but the general question are, was the attacker able to breakin and secondly how can I better protect my computer from future hack attempts. It looks like several hackers are coordinating their efforts to breakin. Regards, Jay

No, it's just Code Red or Nimbda (I forget which) on infected Windoze computers looking for new friends. -- (o< //\ Powered by SuSE Linux V_/_ Virusproof. Crashproof. 1:56pm up 4 days, 17:02, 24 users, load average: 1.34, 1.33, 1.51 processes 4170851

That is the result when a system is infected with the nimda worm virus. It does not harm your linux system :-) but you can have a look at http://www.treachery.net/~jdyson/earlybird/ There you can download a script that sends a warning message to the person who is responsible for the range of IP addresses where the attacker belongs to. I have changed that script a little bit so that attackers are blocked in my firewall. That keeps a lot of garbage from my logfile. --Kees
