Then the apm/acpi of your bios isn't supported or you've explicitly turned it off by booting with acpi=off and/or apm=off. 'cat /proc/cmdline' will tell you if you aren't sure.
-ckm proc/cmdline has in it: root=/dev/hda7 hdc=ide-scsi vga=791 max_scsi_luns=1 pci=acpi acpi=on ¿Should I try acpi=force? I have Suse 8.1 norm
