udevcontrol for SuSE 9.3?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I can't find a udevcontrol executable in any of the SuSE 9.3 RPM's out there so how do you get udev to "reread" the changes made to a .rules file? Do I need to compile up the source code for udev and install it to get this feature? To my experience, you don't need to tell udev that something changed. It apparently monitors the configuration files. Matthias -- Matthias Hopf <mhopf@suse.de> __ __ __ Maxfeldstr. 5 / 90409 Nuernberg (_ | | (_ |__ mat@mshopf.de Phone +49-911-74053-715 __) |_| __) |__ labs www.mshopf.de

It doesn't appear to work that way on SuSE 9.3. The changes I made (to existing lines in existing rules files) get ignored. It's almost like the rules are somehow "compiled" into a database somewhere that udev reads. Other articles I've read indicate you need to somehow signal udev that a change has been made (hence, udevcontrol). udevcontrol comes as part of the udev rpm in SuSE 10.1. Thanks. Err - sorry, should read more closely. I only have experience with udev (never touched that beast before) since 10.0, and only did own configuration since 10.1. In 10.1 you definitely do not need to signal udev.
