[opensuse] SD card write protection
Hello, I have read somewhere that it would be possible to bypass SD cards write protection, because this "write-protect" would be software-only on some models. Is it true ? Is there a command to force "writable" when the card reader protection is software only ? Could be the same with floppy disk. -- (o_ //\ Dsant, from Lyon, France V_/_ forum@votreservice.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I don't think its so, I don't think its true. I don't know about SD readers but I have taken floppy drives apart. The sensor that looks for the "write protect" tab on the floppy inhibits the write circuitry. Its at the hardware level. There is nothing the software can do about it. Yes you could rewire the hardware, but then you could just as easily write protect *everything* by cutting the write wire on the device. What it comes down to is this: if the hardware doesn't have the capability then the software cannot employ it. -- Policies, as distinct from Strategies, must match organizational culture. If this is unable or unwilling to monitor and enforce policies and/or sanction non-compliance, there is no point to having policies - other than to show the auditors that they exist. I've seen organizations pay consultants substantial sums to have a policy portfolio which is then filed and not acted upon. -- Eduardo Gelbstein August 2012 (on LinkedIn) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
