Having two computers connected over a twisted pair is a nice start. It should be the start of a small home network. Where do I find information over how to get connected and to exchange files etc., Right now I can Ping the other computer but have no idea how to begin earnest work.
These are all assuming two linux machines. NFS howto http://nfs.sourceforge.net/nfs-howto/ allows you to mount filesystems from one machine on the other. man scp secure copy man ssh secure shell these both should be installed by default on any SuSE box If you have one linux and one windows machine you will need to look at samba http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba/ Those should keep you busy for a while. You could also play with the webserver and ftp to move files around.
