[opensuse] semi rant on kde4
Hello: I had to install debian wheezy which comes with KDE 4.8.4. This KDE4 has a _serious_ bug which almost make it unusable. One of them is that the mouse pointer becomes invisible (literally disappears) when moved over specific areas, eg over window buttons. This is annoying but one can live with it. But when I move the pointer over an xsane preview area the mouse pointer is not visible anywhere in the preview window. This makes impossible to select the area to be scanned. An this is what I find unacceptable. Another pointer related bug is that the pointer style can not be set to classic permanently. After logout/login it is reverted to the default style. And now the point: I know that KDE 4.8 is a relatively old KDE version. But according to https://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/4.8_Release_Schedule it was released in June 2012. KDE 4.1 was released in July 2008, 4 years earlier. I could not find release info on KDE 4.0. Is this normal that after 4 years of intensive development such bugs still exist? KDE3 whole life cycle maybe was less than 4 years. But I cannot recall if it had such a serious bug. On a desktop the mouse pointer is not visible over certain areas.??? How could this be released at all? Istvan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

And you helped with testing and reported bugs for fixing? You have the same problems with openSUSE (not wheeezy)? You are unhappy? I do lose it sometimes amongst the clutter. Most noticeably over text. Wrapped for other's reading convenience. Why would *anyone* using openSUSE care about pclos, *or* wheeenzy? -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Patrick, it's probably Mutt that doesn't properly wrap the text. Istvan's first posting was just one long line, but in e.g. knode, it was wrapped just fine. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (7.8°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

:^) I knew that, but if one is going to wield a hammer, might as well use a big one. ps: mutt does wrap, or not according to user's pref, remembering when a 40 character wide screen was all that was available and covered much of one's desktop. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
